Committees and Groups

Volunteering to be part of a United Way group or committee is a great way to support the people most in need in our community and get valuable leadership and team skills that help you grow as an individually and professionally.

Some experiences are great for people new to working with United Way, some are meant for those who have a baseline of knowledge about our organization, while other are best suited to those who have already done a few other experiences with us. In short, wherever you are in your philanthropy journey, we have a place for you.

All experiences require you to be a donor to United Way. This connection helps ensure authenticity when helping drive decisions that affect all donor dollars.

Employee Campaign Coordinators

Employee Campaign Coordinators, or ECCs, are enthusiastic, knowledgeable volunteers who utilize their talents and energy to plan and execute a United Way campaign for their company.

You may be a good fit if you enjoy utilizing your talents and energy to inspire and rally those around you to give and help their neighbors through United Way.

Recruitment is year-round.

The time commitment is dependent upon company size and scope of the campaign.

Campaign Cabinet

The Campaign Cabinet is a group of dedicated volunteers spanning many different industries who serve to engage the business community’s involvement with United Way. These volunteers raise support for the annual campaign through fostering meaningful relationships with area leaders.

You may be a good fit if you have a desire to develop relationships with company leaders and their employees, have great communication skills, and enjoy sharing your enthusiasm for United Way.

Recruitment begins in April.

The time commitment is May-September; approximately 2 hours per month.

School Supply Drive Committee

The School Supply Drive Committee is responsible for assisting in the successful planning, implementation, and execution of the annual School Supply Drive. Committee members assist in the organization and packing of school supplies, as well as advocating for the importance of donating to the drive.

You may be a good fit if you have a passion for helping children succeed, are organized and detail-oriented, have good communication skills, and can advocate and fundraise through personal and professional networks and social media.

Recruitment begins in January.

The time commitment is May-August; approximately 20 hours of time.

Community Impact Review Panel

The Community Impact Review Panel is a key part of how United Way of Cass Clay makes thoughtful and strategic investments in our community. Panel members review grant applications from local nonprofits, learn about community needs and data, and help shape funding recommendations that advance our Bold Goals. A defining strength of our approach is that this process is donor led, ensuring that those who invest in our mission also help guide where resources can create the greatest impact.

You may be a good fit if you are curious about our community, open to learning, comfortable participating in group decision making, and interested in offering thoughtful financial recommendations that support lasting impact. Anyone who gives to United Way in any amount is eligible to serve.

Community Impact Committee

The Community Impact Committee is responsible for vetting potential community investments which support the mission, values, and strategic goals of our organization.

You may be a good fit if you can think critically, understand and interpret data, have a learning mindset, and can make objective recommendations.

Investment is recommended at the Leader in Giving level ($720 annually) or more.

Recruitment is ongoing.

The time commitment is six meetings per year: once every other month. A member term is 3 years.

Development Committee

The Development Committee supports United Way’s mission through providing guidance in strategy development for major gifts, endowment gifts, and planned gifts.

You may be a good fit if you have experience in philanthropy and fund development policies, basic principles, and have a willingness to cultivate and strengthen relationships.

Investment is required at the Leader in Giving level ($720 annually) or more.

Recruitment begins annually in February.

The time commitment is six meetings per year and an estimate four additional outside of meeting hours for tasks and preparation. A member term is 3 years, with a 2-term maximum.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is responsible for recommending financial policies, goals, and budgets that support the mission, values, and strategic goals of our organization. The committee reviews financial performance against our goals and proposes major transactions to the Board of Trustees in addition to monitoring the organization’s investment portfolio.

You may be a good fit if you are in the accounting or finance field, and/or have good judgement, logic, curiosity, and a commitment to the long-term financial stability of the organization. Typically, a good Finance Committee candidate has joined us in several other volunteer capacities prior to joining this committee.

Investment is recommended at the Leader in Giving level ($720 annually) or more.

Recruitment begins annually in March.

The time commitment is four meeting per year. A member term is 3 years.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is a group of 9-16 local leaders who are responsible for setting the policy and strategic direction for the organization. These dedicated volunteers actively guide decisions, provide financial oversight, and serve as stewards and champions of community issues.

The Board of Trustees has opportunities for board leadership positions including chair, chair elect, vice chair, and treasurer, as well as the opportunities to fill the chair role for the Development and Finance Committees.

You may be a good fit if you are an established leader of a company or community organization with demonstrated achievements in business, education, strategy, and/or public service. Typically, a good Board of Trustee candidate has joined us in several other volunteer capacities prior to joining the Board.

Investment is recommended at the Leader in Giving level ($720 annually) or more.

Recruitment begins annually in September.

The time commitment is meetings 1-2 times per month, a day-long strategy session once a year, and attendance at key United Way events throughout the year. There is typically 1-2 hours of content review or tasks also per month. A board member term is 3 years, with a 2-term maximum.
